Ruqayyah (roo-ka-yah) Abdul-Karim, MD, is an Obstetrician/gynecologist (OBGYN) at Lenox Hill Hospital, and is also an assistant professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health. She provides full-spectrum women’s health care, including prenatal care, family planning, and minimally invasive gynecological surgeries and is credentialed for the da Vinci robotic surgical system.
Dr. Abdul-Karim studied Anthropology at Columbia University and completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in Bioethics at the NIH Clinical Center prior to attending medical school. She received her MD from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, where she did a special concentration in Health Policy. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn prior to joining Northwell Health in August 2021.
In terms of her approach to care, Dr. Abdul-Karim strives to be a culturally sensitive and compassionate patient advocate. She wants patients to come away feeling like their concerns have been addressed and that they’re receiving comprehensive and supportive care.

Dr. Carmen Rodriguez is an OB/GYN at Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC), where she serves as Associate Director of OB/GYN Quality. She earned her medical degree from Stony Brook Medical School after completing the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education Program. Known for compassionate care, Dr. Rodriguez is deeply committed to mentorship, quality improvement, and advocacy. She is chair of the LIJMC Women in Medicine program, developed a mentoring program for female physicians, and made history as the first female president of LIJMC’s Medical Staff Society. She serves as faculty advisor for the Zucker School of Medicine’s Gold Humanism Honor Society and participates in medical missions to the Dominican Republic. Dr. Rodriguez is Secretary of the Nassau County Medical Society and President-Elect of the McCune Smith-Cordice Medical Society. She received Northwell Health’s President’s Award for Physician of the Year (2019) and LIJMC’s Distinguished Service Award (2025).
