Erin Dainer, MD, has served as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Mather Hospital Northwell since 2023. Under her leadership, the department has experienced continued growth and success, expanding to 15 full-time faculty members and broadening both outpatient and hospital-based psychiatric services. With her support, the faculty have developed several new initiatives, including the Rapid Access Center, an Esketamine Clinic for treatment-resistant depression, and a Perinatal Mental Health Program supporting women during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Through successful faculty recruitment and program development, Dr. Dainer has strengthened supervision and enriched the variety of clinical settings in which residents can train—enhancing the overall educational experience while meeting the community’s evolving mental health needs.
Before joining Mather Hospital, Dr. Dainer served as Regional Medical Director of Mental Health for Teladoc Health, where she worked to integrate psychiatry across medical specialties and expand access to care regardless of location. Earlier in her career, she directed the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, Telepsychiatry, and Integration services at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she helped expand ambulatory and telepsychiatry programs and promoted behavioral health integration across primary care, subspecialties, and pediatric settings.
Dr. Dainer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with highest honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her MD from the Medical College of Georgia. She completed training in both Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Tulane University, achieving board certification in both specialties.
As Chair, Dr. Dainer continues to guide the department’s growth through faculty development, recruitment, and collaboration within Northwell Health, with an ongoing commitment to advancing compassionate, high-quality psychiatric care.
