Joyce S Hui‐Yuen, MD, MS, FAAP, FACR, is a board‐certified pediatric rheumatologist who has been with Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Northwell Health for 9 years. Her clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune disease in pediatric patients, in particular, systemic lupus. As lupus affects more females than males at every age, and can have debilitating effects on quality of life, Dr Hui-Yuen addresses women’s health and wellness in the treatment plans for her lupus patients.
Dr Hui-Yuen is a clinician-scientist at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research (FIMR), whose primary research is focused on environmental effects on the genomes of children, adolescents and young adults with systemic lupus. Her research has been published in high‐impact, peer‐reviewed journals, most notably Proceedings of the National Academic Societies. Her research has been, and is, funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and private foundations including the Rheumatology Research Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation-Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA).
Dr Hui‐Yuen is passionate about mentoring trainees and junior faculty. In addition to her membership with the Katz Institute for Women’s Health, she is an active member of the Advancing Women in Science and Medicine Group at FIMR, and the national American College of Rheumatology/CARRA Mentoring Interest Group, where she annually mentors a pediatric rheumatology fellow from a different institution.
