She\u00a0has been the primary investigator and co-investigator on numerous NIH, AHRQ and foundation grants.<\/p>\n<p>Though an active clinical researcher for\u00a0more than\u00a035 years, Dr. Burns has spent a significant portion of her academic career mentoring students, residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty in the fields of\u00a0geriatrics,\u00a0internal\u00a0medicine,\u00a0epidemiology, and\u00a0clinical and\u00a0translational\u00a0science.\u00a0As a key team member of the MCW Reynolds Foundation Award for developing innovative approaches to geriatrics education and training (2000-2005), she designed, attained approval for, and implemented one of the first combined\u00a0medicine-geriatrics residency programs in the U.S., serving as the program director for\u00a0seven\u00a0years. She spent\u00a0four\u00a0years as a standing member of AHRQ\u2019s Health Services Career Research Training study section, and was co-director on an NIA-funded Medical Student Training in Aging &amp; Injury Research grant.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Burns joined the faculty at the\u00a0Donald and Barbara\u00a0Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra\/Northwell as\u00a0professor of\u00a0medicine in the\u00a0Division of\u00a0Geriatrics and\u00a0Palliative\u00a0Medicine,\u00a0as well as the\u00a0Institute of Health System Science\u00a0at the Feinstein Institutes,\u00a0in February 2019.
