Some women may experience symptoms for years before being diagnosed.<\/p>\n<p>Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS is a relatively common hormonal disorder that occurs in women at a reproductive stage. While the cause is not completely clear, the symptoms associated with PCOS can be obvious.<br \/>\nCauses can include problems with menstrual regularity, a tendency towards obesity, excess hair growth, acne, and fertility issues. Having PCOS can also up the risk for other health problems such as diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that effective treatments are available to address the condition. She received her undergraduate degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with departmental high honors. She earned her medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she served as administrative chief resident in her final year. Dr. Zimmerman proceeded to complete her sub-specialty fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Ronald O. She completed her fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
