With over 33 years of surgical experience in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations and malignant and benign brain tumors, David J. Chalif, MD, FACS, leads a multidisciplinary neurosurgical team and is spearheading the development of South Shore University Hospital’s world-class neurosurgery program. He earned his MD at the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago and completed his neurosurgery training at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Chalif founded the Brain Aneurysm Center at North Shore University Hospital, a cutting-edge program consisting of microsurgery, neurointerventional radiology, fellowship training and neurointensive care. As a recognized leader in his field, Dr. Chalif has been a recipient of the national Brain Aneurysm Foundation’s Physician Champion Award and is a member of their Medical Advisory Board. He is a true advocate for his patients, having lobbied on Capitol Hill and met with members of Congress to raise awareness of brain aneurysms. Dr. Chalif also champions community outreach and spearheads fundraising efforts to support neurosurgery research.

Having joined Northwell Health in 2017, Dr. Galler is a native New Yorker, completing his undergraduate degree at Hofstra University, his DO at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and his MPH at Columbia University. He was an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics at Stony Brook for the first part of his career. Dr. Galler’s clinical practice focuses on a wide variety of spinal disorders, being dual fellowship trained in the fields of complex and minimally invasive spinal techniques.

Jeffrey M. Katz, MD is a vascular and interventional neurologist who is clinically active in the care of patients with ischemic stroke, intracerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial aneurysms, vascular malformations of the brain and spine, carotid and vertebral arterial disease and intracranial steno-occlusive disease. Under Dr. Katz’s leadership, North Shore University Hospital was the first hospital on Long Island to receive certification Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Dr. Katz is the lead author of many of Northwell Health’s stroke policies and clinical guidelines, and was integral in the implementation of these guidelines through the electronic medical record. Dr. Katz is principal investigator on numerous NIH- and industry-sponsored clinical trials and registries, and his research interests include the use of implantable cardiac monitors in stroke patients, early imaging in acute stroke and acute endovascular thrombectomy.

Dr. Katz received his MD from New York University School of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Katz then went on to complete fellowship training at Cornell in stroke, neurointensive care and interventional neuroradiology.

Dr. Katz sits on the New York State Department of Health Stroke Advisory Committee and is board certified in neurology, vascular neurology and neuroendovascular surgery.

As Section Chief of Neurosurgery at Huntington Hospital, Robert G. Kerr, MD, PhD, FRCPSC joined Northwell Health in 2013. Following his residency at University of Alberta in Canada, Dr. Kerr went on to complete a fellowship in skull base surgery. His clinical focus includes brain tumors, skull base surgery, spine surgery, concussion, facial pain and trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Kerr utilizes BrainPath access technology, a novel surgical method to target brain tumors and hemorrhages that were once thought hard to reach. He is a respected member of the Canadian Medical Association, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Medical Council of Canada, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Society for Neuro-Oncology.

Georgios Klironomos, MD, MSc, PhD, is an expert in cerebrovascular surgery, surgical neuro-oncology and open and endoscopic skull base surgery, having completed fellowships in all three specialty areas. Dr. Klironomos also performs procedures for degenerative spine disease, spinal tumors and vascular disease of the spinal cord. With research efforts focused on neuro-oncology, skull base and endoscopic skull base surgery and radiosurgery, as well as cerebrovascular disease, Dr. Klironomos has numerous high-indexed publications and meeting presentations. He graduated medical school with honors for ranking at the top two percent in his class, and was also awarded two scholarships in medical school for placing as the top student. Prior to joining Northwell, Dr. Klironomos was clinical assistant professor of neurosurgery at UPMC Williamsport and served as a military doctor in the Greek army. He is bilingual in English and Greek.

Anthony Lau, MD, PhD, FRCSC specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, adult spinal deformity, spinal trauma and cranial trauma. Dr. Lau completed his medical education at Queen’s University and earned his PhD in traumatic brain injury at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Michael Tymianski. Dr. Lau subsequently completed his neurosurgical training at the University of Toronto in 2016 where he developed an interest in spinal surgery under Dr. Michael Fehlings. Dr. Lau spent an additional year focusing on minimally invasive and complex spine surgery at the University of Miami under the auspices of Dr. Michael Wang, Dr. Allan Levi and Dr. Barth Green.

Krista Lim-Hing, MD, is a neurointensivist, providing specialized care to post-neurosurgical patients in South Shore University Hospital’s neuroscience ICU. Dr. Lim-Hing graduated with her Bachelor of Science summa cum laude from Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned several academic awards, scholarships and grants. Dr. Lim-Hing earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University and completed a two-year fellowship in neurocritical care at the University of Maryland/Shock Trauma Center. She is board certified in neurology and has been involved in several research studies. Dr. Lim-Hing authored a book chapter in addition to several peer-reviewed journal articles.

Ina Terón Molina, MD, MPH, completed fellowships in vascular neurology and endovascular neurology, and is dually board certified in neurology and vascular neurology. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and medical degree magna cum laude, and Master of Public Health summa cum laude. Dr. Terón Molina has been involved in clinical trials on cerebrovascular disease throughout her career and has published several articles. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Tagir Sabirov, MD, is a neurointensivist and provides specialized bedside care to post-neurosurgical patients in South Shore University Hospital’s neuroscience ICU. Dr. Sabirov completed a two-year neurocritical care fellowship at North Shore University Hospital and is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Sabirov was the recipient of several scholarly awards during his academic career and has been involved in clinical research. Dr. Sabirov is bilingual in English and Russian.

Daniel M. Sciubba, MD, is Northwell’s senior vice president of neurosurgery, chair of neurosurgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and co-director of Northwell Health’s Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Prior to joining Northwell, Dr. Sciubba served as professor of neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, oncology, radiation oncology and molecular radiation sciences at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine. A nationally renowned expert in complex spinal conditions, Dr. Sciubba also served as JHU’s director of spinal tumor and deformity surgery, as well as director of the multidisciplinary spinal oncology board and clinic.

Dr. Sciubba received his medical degree from the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. His post-doctoral training included a residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and two complex spine fellowships at JHU and Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Sciubba also completed a research fellowship in neuro-oncology at the National Institutes of Health/Hopkins. A highly regarded researcher, Dr. Sciubba has authored over 500 peer reviewed papers, has edited three books, and has received grants from multiple foundations, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Dr. Sciubba also serves on the editorial board of several prominent neurosurgery and spine journals.

Justin Michael Thomas, MD, FACS, FAANS, is ABNS board certified in neurological surgery and treats primary and metastatic brain and spine tumors, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation and degenerative spine disease, in addition to cranial and spinal neurotrauma. Dr. Thomas completed his undergraduate education as a Presidential Honors Scholar at New York University, graduating magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, also with honors. During medical school, Dr. Thomas pursued his interest in medical ethics and is a published author and theme issue editor of the AMA Journal of Ethics.
