Dr. Swaminath, MD serves as the Chief of GI at LHH and Director of the IBD Program. He is a practicing gastroenterologist with a clinical practice focused on treating patients with Crohn s and colitis, a major contributor to the gastroenterology fellowship training program at Lenox Hill Hospital, and with an appointment as an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. Dr. Swaminath provides multidisciplinary care for complex patients, leads the multidisciplinary IBD case conference, and is the principal investigator on a number of phase III clinical trials.
In addition to authoring numerous original clinical, translational, and review articles, Dr. Swaminath is a sought after speaker in the field of inflammatory bowel diseases. He has served as a NYC Crohn s and Colitis Foundation Chapter Medical Advisory Committee chair and currently participates as a member of the national scientific advisory Professional Education Committee. He has been featured on television news, and numerous print and online media.

Dr. Sara Horst MD, MPH, FACG, AGAF is a Professor in the division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, & Nutrition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Horst completed her medical school and residency training at The Ohio State University and then went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for Gastroenterology Fellowship and to obtain her Masters of Public Health. She joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2011. She is involved in clinical care of complex IBD care, complex amyloid care, clinical research, and teaching and mentoring medical students and housestaff. She is the medical director for VUMC Specialty Pharmacy, VUMC Ambulatory Telehealth director, and VUMC Associate Vice Chair of Digital Health Operations for Dept of Medicine. Her research interests involve psychosocial outcomes in IBD, telehealth in IBD, and medication adherence in IBD. She has extensively published in peer reviewed journals. She is also involved in clinical care improvement as an EPIC Physician Builder and is the Chair of the National EPIC GI Steering Board. She is an associate editor for American Journal of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Kris Kowdley is Director of Liver Institute Northwest and professor, Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University and Senior Scientific Advisor and Medical Director at Velocity Clinical Research. He received his B.S. in Biology and Anthropology as a member of the Dean’s List at Columbia University, and his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Oregon Health Science University and a Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kowdley is internationally recognized as a clinician, educator, and researcher in liver disease. He has led several major international clinical trials of new treatments for hepatitis C, primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Dr. Kowdley’s translational and laboratory research focuses on the role of iron as a co-factor in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, novel murine models, and biomarkers for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. His research program has been continually funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1999.
Dr. Kowdley has authored more than 1,000 articles, book chapters, reviews, and abstracts; his work has been cited more than 77,000 times (h-index 126), according to Google Scholar. He is a “Highly Cited Researcher” (top 1% by citations). Dr. Kowdley is on the Web of Science list of “Highly Cited Researchers” (top 1% by citations for field) for 2010 through 2024.

Juan Carlos Bucobo, MD is a nationally recognized clinician and educator in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, specializing in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoluminal stent placement, and deep small bowel enteroscopy. He is a Professor of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and is the Vice President for Gastroenterology Services for Northwell Health overseeing GI throughout the health system.

Dr. Greenwald has been practicing colon and rectal surgery at North Shore Hospital since 1991. He is Chief of Colon and Rectal Clinical Services at the hospital and has held many leadership positions including President of the Medical Staff and Chairman of the Medical Board. He has established protocols at North Shore Hospital (Enhanced Recovery) to ensure easy, safe, and rapid recovery after abdominal colon and rectal surgical procedures. Dr. Greenwald is dedicated to minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques for all types of colon and rectal surgery, including operations for diverticulitis, colon cancer, rectal cancer, Crohn s disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and rectal prolapse. He is particularly interested in sphincter sparing procedures so patients can continue to have natural bowel function. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies, and he is very experienced at both office and operative management of anal and rectal disorders such as hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas, and anal incontinence. Dr. Greenwald is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and has won multiple teaching awards.

Chun Kit (Nathan) Hung MD has served as the inpatient gastroenterology hospitalist at North Shore University Hospital since 2018. After graduating from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, he completed residency, gastroenterology fellowship, and was chief fellow at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He subsequently stayed on as faculty at Northwell and is involved in the education of trainees as associate program director for the GI fellowship program. As a result of inpatient work, he has a special interest in acute GI bleeding management and safely bridging the most medically acute inpatients into the outpatient practice.

Henry Jen, MD, is a highly skilled and experienced physician specializing in Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy. As the Director of Endoscopy at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, he is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to his patients. Dr. Jen completed his MD at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine and went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital.

Nitzan Roth, MD PhD joined Northwell Health in 2018 to help build the new liver transplant program at North Shore University Hospital. She is the Director of the Women’s Liver Health Program in conjunction with the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and serves as the hepatology liaison for the thoracic transplant programs at NSUH. She is an Associate Program Director for the Gastroenterology fellowship based at NSUH and LIJMC and the Associate Program Director for the Transplant Hepatology fellowship based at NSUH. Dr. Roth is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of liver diseases and in the evaluation and care of patients with advanced cirrhosis, liver cancer, and acute liver failure, both pre- and post-liver transplantation. Her special interests include prevention and multidisciplinary treatment of alcohol-associated liver diseases; evaluation and management of chronic liver disease during pregnancy and pregnancy-related liver diseases; and long-term health maintenance of liver transplant recipients.
Dr. Roth completed her undergraduate degree at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and received her MD and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Southern California. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training and Gastroenterology fellowship at the Los Angeles County – University of Southern California Medical Center (LAC-USC) from 2011-2017 prior to moving to New York to complete an additional Advanced and Transplant Hepatology fellowship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center from 2017-2018. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and the American Society of Transplantation (AST). Dr. Roth presents novel findings annually at society meetings and has published articles and book chapters on topics including alcohol-associated liver disease and transplantation.

Nancy received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2002 from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. In 2016, she earned her Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy (CAPP-Pelvic) from the Section on Women’s Health (SoWH). In 2018, Nancy earned her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification. Nancy specializes in the treatment of men and women with pelvic floor dysfunction, including urinary/fecal incontinence, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic pain. Prior to joining the STARS team, Nancy was the clinical director at an outpatient physical therapy facility where she helped to create and implement a Pelvic Health Rehabilitation Program. Nancy is an active member of the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and has lectured extensively to the community on women’s health and the benefits of physical therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction.
