Professor Damian Roland, having realized that observational medicine was his forte (and clinics and surgery definitely were not!) became a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant in 2014. He has found himself in a number of leadership roles, mainly related to his academic interest in scoring systems and decision making, and is currently the NHS England Lead for the Deteriorating Child where he is responsible for the roll out of the National Paediatric Early Warning System. Not content with just dealing with children, he spends half his time as the Clinical Director for Urgent and Emergency care (all ages) for his health system.
