Lauren Cooper, MD, MHS, is an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist at North Shore University Hospital where she serves as the Director of Heart Failure and holds academic appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and Associate Professor in the Institute of Health System Science at Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research.
Dr. Cooper completed an internal medicine residency and a clinical fellowship in advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiac transplantation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She completed a cardiovascular diseases fellowship and clinical research fellowship at Duke University and received a Master of Health Science in Clinical Research from Duke in 2016. She is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and advanced heart failure. She is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Failure Society of America and is a member of the Heart Failure and Transplant Section Leadership Council of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Cooper’s clinical expertise is in advanced heart failure, temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation. Her research portfolio has focused on using data from clinical trials, registries, and administrative data sets to examine outcomes in patients along the spectrum of heart failure, from chronic heart failure to acute heart failure, as well as advanced heart failure. She currently serves as the Principal Investigator of the R01 funded, “Mechanistic insights from longitudinal changes in blood and urine proteins to explain efficacy and safety of torsemide vs furosemide after a heart failure hospitalization.” She is also active in site-based research and investigator-initiated research at her institution.
She has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, including 20 as the primary author. She has reviewed manuscripts for 15 journals, including the top cardiology and heart failure journals. She has been invited to speak or moderate programs locally, nationally, and internationally.

As the Director of Structural Heart Echocardiography within the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital, Northwell Health, Dr. Koss is responsible for providing clinical leadership and imaging expertise in structural echocardiography in our SHD program. Dr. Koss focuses on implementing a collaborative strategy across the health system to improve quality, identify and implement best practices, develop clinical protocols, and recruit new technologies in the SHD echocardiography program.
Dr. Koss has participated in multiple landmark TAVR trials (including EXPAND II), percutaneous mitral repair and replacement trials (COAPT, CLASP IID and IIF, Apollo), and tricuspid repair and replacement trials (Triluminate, CLASPII TR, TRISCEND). Dr. Koss has particular interest and expertise in 3D echocardiography, structural heart imaging, and intra-operative and interventional transesophageal echocardiography. She has provided intra-procedural guidance for the above procedures as well as alcohol septal ablation, percutaneous paravalvular leak closure and percutaneous PFO/ASD/VSD closure.

Matthew Pierce, MD, MBA is the Cardiology Critical Care Site Director at North Shore University Hospital and is Assistant Professor in Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr. Kristin Stawiarski completed her residency and general cardiology fellowship at Bridgeport Hospital as part of the Yale University training program. Sirish Vullaganti, MD, MSc is the Director of Heart Failure at Lenox Hill Hospital. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at Northwestern University and medical degree at the University of Alabama-Birmingham where he graduated with honors. He completed his medical residency at New York Presbyterian-Columbia and both Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure fellowships at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
His clinical interests include management of heart failure across all spectrums of severity, LVAD and heart transplant care, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy treatments, and the use of advanced imaging modalities in patients with heart failure. He is also passionate about education both at the medical trainee and patient levels.
