Women’s Sports Medicine Program

Active women (whether athletes or fitness enthusiasts) are at a higher risk than their male counterparts for certain injuries around the hips, pelvis, knees and ankles. To address your unique needs, the Women’s Sports Medicine Program at the Northwell Health Orthopaedic Institute, in conjunction with Katz Institute for Women’s Health, offers a variety of resources and programs. Our board-certified orthopedists provide a full range of services to help you recover and stay injury-free. These include comprehensive evaluations and individualized treatment plans to ensure you can return to your full activity level.

Among the injuries and conditions we evaluate and treat are:

  • ACL injuries
  • Shoulder pain and stiffness
  • Stress fractures
  • Tendinitis
  • Circulatory problems related to pregnancy
  • Spinal problems, including sciatica
  • Osteitis pubis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Certified Athletic Training Program

Northwell Health provides schools and teams with highly qualified certified athletic trainers to care for our affiliated athletes. Our ATCs have access to all the resources of Northwell Health—the region’s largest health system.

We provide a variety of services, including:

  • Assessing on-field and track injuries
  • Maintaining training rooms
  • Managing athletic training budgets
  • Providing concussion management services
  • Developing and instructing injury prevention and fitness programs
  • Serving as a liaison among parents, coaches, physicians and rehabilitation professionals regarding student athlete injuries
  • Providing fast-track access to the Northwell Health network and help navigating the healthcare system
