Dr. Robert Koppel earned his MD from McGill University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children and his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Toronto Shared Program in Neonatology.
Following his training, he joined the faculty at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Koppel’s clinical focus is the care of infants with congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and perinatal asphyxia.
Additionally, Dr. Koppel serves as the Medical Director of the Regional Perinatal Centers – North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Koppel’s areas of research interest include the development of non-invasive screening methods for coarctation of the aorta, patent ductus arteriosus, and sudden unexpected postnatal collapse.
Dr. Hima B. Tam Tam, a Northwell Health Maternal-Fetal Medicine Attending physician for the past 11 years, is the Director, High-Risk Pregnancy Program, at North Shore University Hospital, Northwell Physician Health Partners. Dr. Tam Tam is an Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology, at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Tam Tam is passionate about and manages high-risk pregnancies, and is an American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine certified attending. Dr. Tam Tam is also the Director of the Placenta Accreta Program, and chairs multidisciplinary meetings for all high risk deliveries ar North Shore University Hospital.
Dr. Tam Tam graduated with her medical degree from the University of the West Indies, completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center and her Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship with North Shore LIJ Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program.

Dr. Alpna Aggarwal is a neonatologist at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. She completed her pediatrics training at Cohen Children’s Medical Center (formerly Schneider’s) and her fellowship in neonatology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Her special interests include improving the quality of neonatal resuscitation, antibiotic usage, and developmental follow-up. As an NRP Instructor for many years, she has educated countless physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and medical students about the key steps involved in providing effective neonatal resuscitation and transitioning care from the delivery room to the intensive care unit. Additionally, she has led several initiatives to optimize the use of antibiotics in the NICU and plays an active role in neonatal follow up managing nutritional and developmental needs after discharge.
Samantha Benson has been a Registered Nurse for 8 years at North Shore University Hospital in L&D.
She is a recent graduate from Stony Brook University with her MSN in Nursing Leadership, continuing her love of learning.

Rachel Cascone has been a nurse for 21 years and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for 14 years. She began her career as a staff RN in the Neonatal ICU at Schneider Children’s Hospital. While working there, Rachel witnessed the powerful impact that human milk feeding has on outcomes for premature infants. As a result, she became board certified in lactation and transitioned to North Shore University Hospital where she served as a NICU Lactation Consultant for 10 years. Currently, Rachel is the Clinical Program Manager for Lactation at North Shore and serves as Co-President of the Long Island Hospital Lactation Association.
Frank A. Chervenak, MD currently serves as Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Lenox Hill Hospital; Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Dean of International Medicine, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University with highest distinction, and his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University where he was elected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Chervenak served his internship in Internal Medicine at New York Medical College, residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Medical College in St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, and a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. He was Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, where he was also Director of Perinatal Research and received the Dr. Solomon Silver Award for application of advances in research to the practice of Clinical Medicine. He had served as the Given Foundation Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as Obstetrician and Gynecologist-in-Chief and the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Medical College of Cornell University from 1999 to 2018.
Dr. Chervenak was appointed Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Obstetric Ultrasound and Ethics at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in 1987. In 1991 he was named Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Director of Obstetrics. In 1992 he was made Full Professor with tenure, in 1998 he was named Vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and in 1999 was named Acting Chairman of that department. Dr. Chervenak was named Chairman and Obstetrician and Gynecologist-in-Chief in 2000. He received his Master in Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2001 and earned fellowship status from the American College of Physician Executives in 2008.
Dr. Chervenak has published 342 papers in peer review literature and has co-authored or co- edited 43 textbooks. Research interests include ultrasound and ethics in obstetrics & gynecology and physician leadership. He has been named a member of The National Academy of Medicine of the National Academies. Dr. Chervenak has served on the Board of Governors of the American Institute in Ultrasound and Medicine and the Society of Perinatal Obstetricians. He has served as President of the World Association of Perinatal Medicine, International Fetal Medicine in Surgery Society, the New York Perinatal Society and the New York Academy of Medicine Section of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the New York Obstetrical Society. Currently, Dr. Chervenak serves as President of the International Society of the Fetus as a Patient, Vice-president of the International Academy of Perinatal Medicine, and Co- director of The Ian Donald Inter-University School of Medicine and Ultrasound and serves on the ethics and professionalism committee of FIGO.
He has been awarded doctor honoris causa from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary; University of Athens, Greece; Carol Davila University of Medicine, Bucharest, Romania; University of The Republic, Montevideo, Uruguay; Siberian State University, Tomsk, Russia; University of Buenos Aries, Argentina; Dubrovnik International University, Croatia; Ott Scientific Research University of Obstetrics and Gynecology, St Petersburg; Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow; Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, Moscow and Surgut University, Russia, Kuban State University Krasnodar, Russia. Dr. Dhanantwari specializes in fetal cardiology, a highly specialized field that diagnose and manage congenital heart defects in utero. She completed her internship and residency in general pediatrics at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn NY. She then went on to pursue pediatric cardiology and completed fellowship at Schneider Children’s Hospital (now Cohen Children’s Medical Center of NY).
Following pediatric cardiology training Dr. Dhanantwari went on to complete a senior fellowship in noninvasive cardiac imaging at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC where she was trained by renowned fetal cardiologist Dr. Donofrio. She then joined the pediatric cardiology division at CCMC in 2008 where she has been the director of the fetal heart program since 2010.
Allison Donlon has been a Registered Nurse at North Shore University Hospital, Northwell Health, for the last 7 years. She is certified in Inpatient Obstetrics, NRP, ACLS and BLS. Allison is also on the Nursing Clinical Ladder.
Allison has integrated the role of charge nurse on the Labor and Delivery floor for the last 3 years where she collaboratively works with management, safety officers, attending physicians, OB residents and the NICU team to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and their newborns.
Richard Friedman, M.D., MBA, MBI is a member of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Cohen Children’s Hospital. He is an internationally known Pediatric/Congenital Heart Disease Electrophysiologist and serves as the Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program at Northwell Health. Following graduation from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1980, he started his training at Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine. His Cardiology training in both Basic and Clinical Electrophysiology as well as Pediatric Cardiology was also completed there. He has been at the forefront of management of arrhythmias as well as implantable cardiac devices in patients of all ages with a history of Congenital Heart Disease.
His experience in Adult Congenital Heart Disease came about as he continued to follow his patients with arrhythmias and heart failure into their adulthood. Along with Dr. Wayne Franklin, he started the Adult Congenital Heart Program at Baylor College of Medicine in the late 1990’s which has grown, over time to one of the largest programs in the United States. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. He has particular interests in women with Congenital Heart Disease who are pregnant or wishing to become pregnant and has helped to put together a team of Obstetricians, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Anesthesiologists and Congenital Heart doctors who have successfully managed these patients before, during and following their pregnancies at Katz Women’s Hospital.
A renowned pediatric cardiologist, Jeffrey Gossett, MD treats heart birth defects as well as heart conditions that develop in childhood. Dr Gossett specializes in treating patients who develop heart failure and require evaluation for heart transplantation. He also treats patients with cardiomyopathy and end stage congenital heart disease, or a heart abnormality that is present at birth.
Dr Gossett’s research focuses on improving heart transplant outcomes. He has investigated rejection after heart transplantation, when the body’s immune system attacks the transplanted heart, and heart transplant complications in children born with one functioning ventricle in the heart. Dr Gossett also has a keen interest in ethical issues impacting pediatric heart transplantation.
Dr. Grayver specializes in cardiology, a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology. As an attending cardiologist, Dr. Grayver helps to prevent, diagnose, and treat cardiovascular diseases, all the while promoting heart health. Dr. Grayver is also an Assistant Professor at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at HofstralNorthwell. She frequently teaches at the medical school and runs a specialized cardiac critical care elective for medical students. She is affiliated with Long Island Jewish Forest Hills and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Grayver is board-certified in both Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Ms. Ariane Ivala-Walker, RNC-OB, is an experienced obstetrical registered nurse with current role as Manager, Clinical Program at North Shore University Hospital Regional Perinatal Center. She is a member of the perinatal conference planning committee and the conference coordinator. She has a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & health care industry for 14 years, is trained as a Labor & Delivery nurse and certified in Inpatient Obstetrics.
Ms. Ivala-Walker is skilled in Obstetrical Quality Reviews, High Risk Pregnancy Nursing Management, Presentation and Speech, Healthcare, Leadership, Simulation and Conference Management. Ms. Ivala- Walker works closely with New York State Department of Health’s Division of Family Health as her hospital’s representative to lead, in partnership with her multidisciplinary team, numerous process improvement projects and is currently working on the New York State Opioid Use Disorder in Pregnancy and Neonatal Abstinence project and the Birth Equity Improvement project. She is also a strong information technology professional with a Master of Arts in Psychology from LIU Brooklyn Campus where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and a Master of Science (MS) focused in Nursing Leadership from Stony Brook University Graduate School where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. During her studies, Ms. Ivala-Walker was inducted into Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Kappa Gamma Chapter.

Dr. Dipak Kholwadwala graduated with honors from Baroda Medical School in India. He then completed his pediatric residency at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Kholwadwala went on to pursue his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Yale University with special interest in interventional cardiology where he was trained by recognized pioneers like Dr. William Hellenbrand and Dr. Charles Kleinman. He then joined the Northwell Health System in 1992 as an interventional pediatric cardiologist where he remains as Director of the Pediatric Catheterization Lab at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Kholwadwala’s focus remains in interventional procedures such as balloon valvuloplasty, stents, device closure of defects, and transcatheter pulmonary valve placements in children and adults with congenital heart defects. Dr. Kholwadwala also performs cutting-edge procedures such as PDA closure in extremely small premature babies using the Piccolo device.

Kristen graduated from Adelphi University with a BSN degree in 2005. She soon joined the OB-GYN team as a labor and delivery RN. While gaining invaluable knowledge on the labor floor, Kristen returned to school and obtained a master’s degree as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner graduating magma cum laude from Downstate University. After graduation, Kristen worked as a diabetes educator in a 500+ patient practice for 4 years. Desperately missing the delivery process, Kristen made the transition back to OB-GYN inpatient care. Additionally, in a collaborative effort, Kristen and Dr. McNally have created the simulation program that runs monthly. In short, Kristen is a North Shore lifer.
Kimberly Kudlack, MS, CGC is currently the senior genetic counselor within the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at North Shore University Hospital. Ms. Kudlack obtained her Bachelors of Science from Boston College. Upon completion of her studies, she worked for the DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories as a Middle School Educator. Ms. Kudlack went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in genetic counseling at Northwestern University. She worked at Mt.Sinai School of Medicine with Dr. Maria New, the world’s expert in congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), as a lab genetic counselor coordinating and managing genetic testing for all forms of CAH. Ms. Kudlack joined the Northwell Health Division of Medical Genetics where she practiced prenatal, pediatric, and adult genetic counseling. Currently, within the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine Ms. Kudlack provides prenatal genetic counseling for high risk pregnancies exclusively.
A native of Queens, Dr. Martens completed his medical and general surgical training at NYU Langone Medical Center as well as a PhD in biomedical engineering at Columbia University. He remained at NYU for cardiothoracic surgery fellowship before completing additional training in congenital cardiac surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
He recently joined the team at Cohen Children’s Medical Center after five years at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital where he served as the medical director of ECMO. In addition to his clinical practice, he hopes to engineer implants capable of somatic growth to lessen the number of surgeries required for children with congenital heart disease to reach adulthood.

Dr. Michael Nimaroff is the Senior Vice President & Executive Director of Ob/Gyn at Northwell Health and serves as the Chair of Ob/Gyn at North Shore University Hospital & Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Nimaroff is an Associate Professor of Ob/Gyn at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. In these roles, Dr. Nimaroff drives the strategic vision and quality initiatives for the division. He has been a member of the Northwell community for over thirty years, where he began his career as a resident and subsequently became a member of the voluntary staff. Initially trained as a General Ob Gyn, his practice dealt with the full range of obstetrical & gynecologic conditions. With the birth of the field of minimally invasive surgery in the early 1990’s, Dr. Nimaroff began to focus his practice on this new area of specialization, becoming a leader in this field and teaching new minimally invasive techniques to other physicians, locally, regionally, and nationally. Dr. Nimaroff founded the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in 2009, and established one of the first gyn robotic programs in New York. In his clinical practice, he has a special interest in fertility preserving minimally invasive procedures, and management of recurrent pregnancy loss. Currently, Dr. Nimaroff and his team are spearheading a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to combating the crisis of racially disparate outcomes in maternal care.
Dr. Palleschi joined Northwell Health in 1999 and is currently the Division Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Palleschi is dedicated to the delivery of obstetric anesthesia care and, on a national level, is actively involved in the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology. He has served the Society in varying capacities and has been nominated twice for the SOAP Board of Directors. Dr. Palleschi has lectured at national meetings including the Post Graduate Assembly of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists as well as at the SOAP Annual Meeting. Locally, Dr. Palleschi is involved in resident education and serves as the Associate Program Director for the Northwell Health Anesthesia Residency. A well-respected clinician, Dr. Palleschi serves as the Chairman of the Clinical Competency Committee for the Anesthesia Department at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Pessel joined North Shore’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division in 2014 after graduating fellowship at Columbia University. Over the past 7 years she has enjoyed teaching the residents and fellows here at Northwell, and has been the recipient of several teaching awards, including Teacher of the Year from Northwell Health, the CREOG Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education, and was a Truly Award nominee for effective mentorship last year. Dr. Pessel has a passion for helping women prepare for healthy pregnancies as the Director of the Center for Preconception Care. Along those lines she is very excited to be collaborating with the Cardiology Department, and looks forward to cultivating Northwell’s CardioObstetrics Program.
Nancy Pupke DNP, RNC began her career as a Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) Nurse at Northwell after graduating from college. She earned a DNP degree from Case Western Reserve University.
Nancy has enjoyed her roles as NICU Nurse Educator, as well as her current role as Neonatal Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) Coordinator for Northwell. The RPC in conjunction with NYSDOH strives to improve healthcare outcomes for mothers and babies.
As Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, and a Maternal- Fetal Medicine physician at North Shore University Hospital, Dr. Timothy Rafael provides comprehensive care for women at high risk for complications during pregnancy. Dr. Rafael is an Assistant Professor of Ob/Gyn at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, with expertise in general high-risk pregnancy conditions including preterm birth, ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis. He has authored or co-authored numerous scientific papers as well as multiple book chapters in the field of maternal-fetal medicine, and has been recognized with multiple teaching awards throughout his career, including the CREOG Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education. Consistently rated as excellent by patients and their families, Dr. Rafael is committed to providing state-of-the-art compassionate care.”
Stacey Rosen, MD is the Senior Vice President for the Katz Institute for Women’s Health (KIWH). She is a leading expert in the field of cardiovascular disease in women’s health. Dr. Rosen oversees the development and coordination of a comprehensive and integrated approach to women’s health services at Northwell Health. In this role her mission has been to focus primarily on the elimination of health care disparities through comprehensive clinical programs, gender-based research, community partnerships and education. She has been a practicing cardiologist for over 30 years. Stacey is Partners Council Professor of Women’s Health and Professor of Cardiology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Rosen has recently co-authored the book, Heart Smart for Women: Six S.T.E.P.S IN Six Weeks to HeartHealthy Living, published in October 2017 and the Spanish version of the book, Un Corazón Saludable PARA La Mujer Moderna”, Seis P.A.S.O.S. En Seis Semanas Para Mantener La Salud Del Corazón, published January 2019., and has co-produced her first documentary titled “MsDiagnosed” which premiered at the Cinequest film festival on March 7, 2020.
She has served as a longtime volunteer for the American Heart Association with leadership positions at the local, regional and national levels and has been and has been a national spokesperson for the AHA’s Go Red for Women Movement. She served as a member of the AHA national committee 2016-2018 and currently serves as the President, Board of Directors, Eastern States for the AHA. In 2018 she received the AHA’s Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award.
Stacey is a graduate of the six-year medical program at Boston University School of Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Heart Association (AHA).

Dr. Charles Schleien is the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics for the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center and Professor of Pediatrics at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He is past Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons as well as Professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology. Prior to that, he was Director of the division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, which he founded on his arrival to Columbia in 1999, and served as medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of Columbia University.
Dr. Schleien attended the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, completed his pediatrics residency at Texas Children’s Hospital, and his anesthesiology residency and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital where he remained on the faculty as Assistant Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and was NIH funded for his research in brain metabolism, brain resuscitation and CPR. He directed the Critical Care division at the University of Miami where he led a major research effort in brain resuscitation.
He was a longstanding member of the American Heart Association-Emergency Cardiovascular Committee instrumental in formulating the international pediatric guidelines in CPR. He has been honored with prestigious fellowships from the Society of Critical Care Medicine as well as the American Heart Association. He received his MBA from the Columbia Business School in the Spring 2008. He lives in New Rochelle, NY with his wife Debbie and has two sons, Eric and Zachary.
Dr. Annemarie Stroustrup is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Occupational Medicine, Epidemiology and Prevention at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She is also the Vice President of Neonatal Services for the Northwell Health System.
Dr. Stroustrup received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, completed medical school in the Health Sciences and Technology program of Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earned her Master in Public Health degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
She completed residency training in General Pediatrics and fellowship training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. In addition to attending in the NICU, Dr. Stroustrup heads a research program exploring the impact of hospitalbased environmental exposures on multi-system adverse outcomes related to prematurity. Her transdisciplinary research interests span the fields of children’s environmental health, perinatal epidemiology, neonatology, and neurodevelopment.
She is the PI of the NICU Hospital Exposures and Long-Term Health (NICU-HEALTH) cohort, which is part of the NIH-initiated national children’s environmental health research program, ECHO (Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes). Dr. Stroustrup has received numerous honors and awards for her work in patient-oriented research and is currently funded under mulitple NIH grants.
Dr. Stroustrup lives in Harlem, New York, with her husband and four children.
Charmaine Suchit is passionate about Obstetrics. She is an RN with 24 years of experience in the field, 21 in the clinical setting and three in quality and performance improvement. She has worked in multiple hospitals in in five states (TX, TN, MD, NJ, NY).
Her work experience has given her the ability to see the delivery of care from various perspectives. She currently works at LIJMC as a Regional Perinatal Coordinator where she is the lead on DOH initiatives, currently the Birth Equity and Opioid Use Disorder Performance Improvement Projects.
Jeanne Woods Ludwig has been a registered nurse for 34 years. She graduated from Beth Israel School of Nursing in 1987 and from Pace University in 1992 with her BSN. She has been working at North Shore University Hospital for the past 30 years in a variety of positions. She has been a staff nurse, nurse manager, Regional Perinatal Coordinator, all in the Department of OB GYN.
Her current position is Patient Navigator in Maternal Fetal Medicine. In this role, she provides personalized guidance to patients after a fetal diagnosis is made. She serves as a point of contact, assisting patients with appointments for diagnostic testing and consultations. She works hand-in-hand with the Maternal Fetal Medicine team, the pediatric subspecialty teams, and the patient’s obstetrician to optimize the patient experience and neonatal outcome. Jeanne is also the Patient Navigator for the Center For Cancer, Pregnancy, and Reproduction, providing navigation services to patients facing a diagnosis of cancer during their pregnancy.
