As a Board Certified Internist, I am passionate about preventative health and wellness. I believe that a good doctor-patient relationship is based on open communication, shared goals, and honesty. As co-founder of Internal Medicine for Women, I have decided to focus on the unique health concerns of women throughout their lives. Our office strives to create an environment where our patients feel comfortable, welcomed, and safe in sharing their health concerns.

Practicing evidence-based, quality-focused care has led us to have an award winning practice. We have been recognized for excellence by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, by Medicare as part of the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative, and I have been selected year over year as a top Internist in Westchester County by Castle Connolly. While awards and accolades are nice, what I value the most is the relationship with my patients. We practice medicine in a team-based approach and everyone in our office works collaboratively to help our patients navigate the complex healthcare system. By focusing and listening to you, my patient, I hope to help you stay healthy and negotiate through any health issue you encounter.

As Chief Medical Officer of Westchester Health, our office often pilots innovative screening and treatment programs that improve the health of our patient population. Patients in our practice participate in state-of-the-art healthcare initiatives, such as embedded case management, depression screening and treatment programs, and the patient-centered medical home models. We lead change in our practice with the goal of improving the health of our entire patient population. However, with each patient, I strive to connect on a personal level and help her achieve her healthcare goals.

I am also a mom of three who enjoys reading, cooking, and traveling. I have lived and worked in this community for almost 20 years and truly believe everyone deserves excellent healthcare.

Fidel Valea, MD is the system chief of gynecologic oncology at Northwell Health and the director of gynecologic oncology for the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. He previously served as the Director of Gynecologic Oncology for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) from 2018-2021 after serving six years as a member of that division. With 25 years of service, he is one of the nation’s longest- standing oral board examiners for the ABOG. He also proudly serves on the board of directors of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Valea has won numerous regional and national teaching awards. During his 12-year tenure at Stony Brook, he served as the Principal Investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology national study group and Division Head. Afterwards, he was recruited to Duke University School of Medicine where he held several leadership positions, including vice chair of education and both residency director and fellowship director in gynecologic oncology.

Among the many clinical trials Dr. Valea has been involved in, he is most known for his work in improving perioperative care (ERAS), surgical education and preinvasive diseases of the cervix. He was also involved in the development of sentinel lymph node mapping for patients with endometrial cancer, a technique for successfully identifying the most important lymph nodes to remove in these patients.

Born in Cuba and raised in New York, Dr. Valea was inspired as a child by a close family role model who pursued a path in medicine. He continued to meet mentors in different clinical specialties that cultivated his interest in becoming a surgeon, and specifically a gynecologic oncologist. Although Dr. Valea has a passion for surgery and fixing things with his hands, first and foremost, he’s a “people person.”

Dr. Valea loves the lifelong relationships that he develops in this field. In fact, he keeps every card, and every gift that patients have given him over the years. He takes the time to build a personal connection with not just each patient, but with their support systems as well, so that everyone can feel “happier, safer, connected and more comfortable” through every step of their journey together.

Sharon Zarabi, RD, CDN, CPT**

View Bio

Sharon Zarabi is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (RD, CDN) and Certified Personal Fitness Trainer with the International Fitness Professional’s Association (IFPA) and Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA.) Sharon’s appreciation for the human body began with her love of sports from an early age. Participating in activities such as dance, while playing competitive soccer, basketball, and running track, taught her important lessons about physical performance and wellness through lifestyle choices. For these reasons, it was in her teenage years Sharon became an advocate for an active lifestyle.

While athletics were an integral part of Sharon’s life, family has always been a priority as well. Growing up surrounded by a large family who would gather on a regular basis for various reasons always meant a great deal of dinners. It was here where Sharon’s true love of food was born. From childhood she would help her mother in the kitchen when she would prepare meals. As she learned her way around the kitchen, she began to experiment and create her own dishes. While some weren’t always a success, for the most part Sharon wound up not only surprising herself with her culinary intuition, but also impressing those who tasted her dishes.

As her college years approached, Sharon realized more than ever how synonymous her food intake was with her lifestyle. The further she explored this concept, the more she realized how far beyond athletics this went. It was this particular concept which led to Sharon’s choice of professional study. In 2005, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from New York University with a major in Nutrition and Dietetics before continuing her studies at Long Island University CW Post. It was here she obtained her credentials as an RD.

As her enthusiasm in the field continued to blossom, Sharon found herself seeking out any and every extracurricular mediums she could to enhance her knowledge in the fields of nutrition, exercise, and wellness. Ms. Zarabi partook in significant internship programs throughout her education, granting her the experience she has today. At St. Francis Hospital, she specialized in cardiac, and expanded her skill with weight management working with children of Adolescent Medicine of the Northwell Health System.

Committed to a life and career of promoting healthy living, Sharon is an active member of several nutritional associations, including: The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND), SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition), Weight Management Practice Group, IDEA Health and Fitness Association, Greater New York Dietetic Association, Long Island Dietetic Association, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM.)

Throughout her career, it seems what has set Sharon apart is her depth and diversity in the field. Her experience has allowed her delivery of expertise to carry an unprecedented range. Ms. Zarabi has co-authored The Singer’s Guide to Complete Health and The Ultimate Guide to Singing and contributes to various media outlets including, but not limited to CBS, Fox, The Bariatric Times, Reader’s Digest, Shape Magazine, Men’s Health & Fitness. She is an expert presenter for Ethicon, BariMD, and ASMBS, and currently lectures extensively on weight management and wellness at various community centers throughout the New York area. As the Bariatric Program Director of Lenox Hill Hospital she runs the monthly support groups for both post-operative and pre-operative patients and served as 2007-2011 Walk From Obesity Leader. Ms. Zarabi also serves as a private counselor for Weight Loss Surgery patients of Lenox Hill Hospital of New York.

In the midst of the diverse activities she participates in, Sharon’s love of health and fitness has not wavered in the slightest bit. She continues to better her own fitness with an extensive multi-day training regiment, while working as a private fitness instructor, helping patients and clients to bridge the gap between fitness and nutrition. She is a realistic optimist who leads by example. Sharon understands, first-hand, the dynamic impact of life choices because of the role it has played in her own life. Devoted to furthering education, she is currently fulfilling her Masters Degree in Nutrition and Exercise Specialty. As she continues her life’s work, her vision is to continue to use fitness and nutrition as a means to offer spiritual and emotional relief in the face of upheaval in people’s lives.
