Despite an unconventional path to become a clinical-translational researcher, I have been able to develop and demonstrate expertise and leadership in the execution of clinical research projects. My academic achievements could not be possible without the exceptional guidance, friendship and mentorship of Dr. Henry N. Ginsberg. I am highly motivated, enthusiastic, persistent, and extremely goal oriented. I obtained an MD from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, Santiago, Dominican Republic, my homeland. I completed my post graduate work at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC), sponsored by an NIH T32- Atherosclerosis training grant. In 2007, I joined the faculty of the Dept of Medicine, Division of Preventive Medicine and Nutrition at CUMC. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at CUIMC. My laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms that regulate lipid and lipoproteins in health and disease states. The laboratory has independent funding from NIH-NHLBI and internal career development grants. We have received funding from Industry to study the mechanisms regulating lipid and lipoproteins following treatments with novel lipid lowering therapies. We have a growing list of publications and many future projects in the pipeline.
